The University of Pittsburgh Innovation Institute reported that Pitt Innovators were issued five U.S. patents in July 2016.

US 9,393,225 "Melanoma Chemoprevention"
Dr. John Kirkwood, Chair, Melanoma Program, University of Pittsburgh Hillman Cancer Center, and his colleagues identified a dosing range for Sulforaphane, a naturally occurring compound in vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower, that can act as a chemopreventative for people predisposed to melanoma.
