Pitt’s Office of Industry and Economic Partnerships (OIEP) will be attending the BIO International Convention in San Diego from June 3-6, 2024. “BIO” is the largest and most comprehensive event for biotechnology business development and partnering, representing the full ecosystem of biotech with over 20,000 industry leaders attending from across the globe.
Ranked #6 in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding and with more than $1.1 billion in annual research expenditures, Pitt is a top-tier research institution that collaborates with industry partners in nearly every therapeutic area. At BIO, companies can explore more than 350 Pitt technologies available for licensing and research partnering, with an emphasis on areas of industry-focus like cell and gene therapy, oncology, cardiometabolic disease, neuroscience, ophthalmology, and real-world evidence.
Pitt will feature its growing capabilities in cell and gene therapy at BIO with research and licensing opportunities from more than 60 faculty. Pitt’s BioForge biomanufacturing facility, currently under construction, will also be top of mind as partnerships to accelerate cell and gene therapy research are explored.
Collaborative research opportunities around “Real-World Evidence” (RWE) will also be featured at BIO this year. Through Pitt’s partnership with UPMC, a $28 billion world-renowned health care provider and insurer, Pitt faculty are uniquely situated to harness RWE to generate valuable insights and actionable answers for improving health outcomes. Pitt leads the way in RWE generation, with an established informatics infrastructure and membership in leading regional and national data networks. Industry partners can collaborate with Pitt on projects spanning observational studies, risk stratification, comparative effectiveness, and more.
Attending BIO from Pitt OIEP are Business Development Directors, Mike Flock, Paul-Valentin Pitou and Brian Vidic, and Director of Licensing, Life Sciences, Maria Vanegas.
Companies interesting in collaborating with Pitt on research and technology licensing can schedule meetings via the BIO 1:1 partnering platform or by email to partner@pitt.edu.
