Small Business Coronavirus Webinar

Covid for Small Businesses

Small businesses in Western Pennsylvania are dealing with the massive economic upheaval caused by the closings and social distancing measures put in place to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. And with events unfolding rapidly regarding the government’s proposed relief packages, they are struggling to make decisions on whether or not to furlough employees and to determine what access to emergency financing may be available.

With that in mind the University of Pittsburgh Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence has scheduled a free webinar for Friday, March 20, 2020, at 1 p.m. The webinar will be recorded for those who cannot participate live and be available via the Institute's website: http://entrepreneur.pitt.edu/

Ray Vargo, director of the Institute’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC), said the webinar is open to any small business owner that has been or may be impacted by the current crisis.

“Things are changing on an hour-by-hour basis,” Vargo said. “We want to provide as much information as we can about possible programs and resources so that business owners can try to make the best possible decisions.”

Vargo said more webinars may be scheduled in coming days and weeks as the situation continues to evolve.

Representatives from the SBDC, Huntington Bank, Maeillo Brungo & Maiello, Wilke & Associates CPAs, Enscoe Long Insurance Group, and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be present to outline the resources and relief options available and answer questions.

Topics to include:

  1. Pitt SBDC availability and resources
  2. SBA Disaster Loan program and process
  3. Working with your bank to discuss aid and relief
  4. Families First Coronavirus Response Act
  5. Tax implications resulting from business impact
  6. Relevant insurance issues relevant for businesses
